Major Recent Developments (March 3–5, 2026)
US and Israeli strikes have continued intensively, including multiple barrages on Tehran (e.g., IRGC compounds, decision-making institutions, and southeastern areas), other cities, and missile bases. Reports indicate severe degradation of Iran’s air defenses, ballistic missile launchers (hundreds destroyed), and drone/missile stocks — with Iranian regional missile launches down significantly (e.g., 86% overall reduction reported by CENTCOM).
Iranian retaliatory attacks have expanded regionally: Drones and missiles have struck targets in at least 11 countries, including US bases in Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE; energy facilities in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere; and sites in Israel, Lebanon (via Hezbollah), Cyprus, and others. Recent waves hit Gulf states, with explosions reported in Doha and Abu Dhabi.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz recently, severely disrupting global oil shipping (about 20% of world oil trade affected), causing price surges and stranding tankers.
Renewed Israeli strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon (evacuations ordered in southern Beirut); Iranian strikes on Kurdish groups in Iraq; drone incidents affecting Azerbaijan and Cyprus (prompting European military responses); and broader regional involvement (e.g., NATO defenses intercepting missiles toward Turkey).
The current state of global affairs is perplexing.
What is the regime’s strategy? Do they genuinely believe that inciting regional instability—through the launching of mid-range missiles at targets such as the UAE, Saudi Aramco, and Qatar —will compel a cessation of the conflict by exerting economic pressure or ultimately lead to Islamic unity against the West?
Their actions clearly demonstrate a failure of leadership. One can only hope that their malevolent schemes will result in their own collapse.
It is also hoped that Israeli President Isaac Herzog will, as he has reportedly promised on numerous prior occasions, grant a pardon to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu so that he may dedicate his much-needed full attention to this historic conflict.
