Yesterday and Today: Eye-Openers in the Shomron

The AFSI Chizuk Mission spent the entire day Sunday in the Shomron, first visiting the beautiful town of Kedumim. There they met with Mayor Hananel, ex-mayor and activist Daniella Weiss and others.

The group traveled to Shilo to see the new area for the building of homes for the Amona expellees. Elad Ziv, one of the displaced persons from Amona, discussed the situation while guiding the group around.

Continuing to Jerusalem to participate in the Yom Yerushalayim activities, the group spent the night on Har Hatzofim. Below is the spot where Israeli generals stood when they ordered the taking of Jerusalem, 50 years ago to the day!

Today (Monday), the group toured the E-1 area east of Jerusalem with the head of Regavim, Josh Hasten. There they saw the ongoing and extensive illegal Arab building, much of it financed by the EU. This construction consists of simple shacks, and there are also elaborate mansions in the area, all built without permits.

E-1 is significant as it serves as a natural connection between Yerushalayim and Ma’ale Adumim, the latter which is really a suburb/neighborhood of Israel’s capital. It is also an important connection between the capital and the Dead Sea.
