AFSI has monitored Israel’s initiatives concerning Israel’s judicial reforms; however, after the events of October 7, its involvement has diminished significantly. In the wake of October 7, it appears to have been largely overlooked.

Avi Abelow’s recent article below serves as a crucial reminder that the judicial reforms in Israel must not be disregarded! It is important to read his article that discusses this pressing and ongoing issue.

…Israel’s Supreme Court, the High Court of Justice, is convening to consider whether to remove a sitting minister from office. He broke no law. He was not convicted of a crime. But because the Attorney General and unelected senior officials have decided they don’t like him in charge of the police and believe they know better than the voters of Israel.

What we are seeing now points to a coordinated effort to protect an entrenched corrupt deep state system from exposure, even if that means paralyzing the elected government and abusing the very institutions meant to defend the state, not manipulate its political leadership.

For years, many Israelis preferred to stay on the fence. Judicial reform? Too divisive. Too political. Not needed. Continue to work on compromises that maintain the overall power of the judges. Better not get involved. But that luxury is gone. Because what is being exposed now is not a technical legal debate, it is a total systemic abuse of power.

More than two decades after its evacuation, the northern Samaria community of Sa-Nur is being reestablished, as families returned to the site on Sunday in what participants described as a historic moment.

Sixteen families moved into newly placed caravans, arriving with trucks carrying their belongings in a symbolic reversal of the 2005 disengagement, when residents were removed from the community.

Among those returning is Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan, who was evacuated from Sa-Nur as a young man and has since worked toward rebuilding communities in the region. “We are beginning a historic step,” Dagan said. “The trucks are making the journey again, this time back home. This is just the beginning.”

Sa-Nur was evacuated in September 2005 as part of Israel’s disengagement plan, during which its residents were removed and the community dismantled by IDF forces.

AFSI’s take:
The reestablishment of Sa-Nur is not only historic. It signifies an important advancement in northern Samaria, with more families anticipated to relocate in the upcoming months as the community expands. This development conveys a clear and definitive message that Israel intends to remain on its legally owned land and that it will continue to build and enhance its Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria.

Axios reported on Thursday, citing a Lebanese presidential source, that US President Donald Trump had contacted President Joseph Aoun and officially notified him of a ceasefire decision that will go into effect within hours.

According to reports, the Americans were the ones who initiated the talks, thinking that direct talks between the parties would lead to the declaration of a permanent or temporary ceasefire.

Despite the optimism, Hezbollah quickly put a damper on the reports. Minutes after the reports of ceasefire were released, the terrorist organization launched a volley of five missiles at Haifa and the bay area. Some of the missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome, and others fell in open areas.

On Wednesday night, President Trump announced on Truth Social: “Trying to get a little breathing room between Israel and Lebanon. It has been a long time since the two leaders have spoken, like 34 years. It will happen tomorrow. Nice!”

AFSI’s take:
While we do not intend to trivialize the events that have occurred, they evoke memories of the film “Groundhog Day.” In the movie, the weatherman becomes trapped in a time loop, compelled to experience the same day repeatedly. Similarly, these recent developments also resemble a volleyball game without a victor. This is the feeling we experience upon hearing about yet another ceasefire proposal involving another terrorist organization. On one hand, Israel has made significant progress in combating terrorism, largely attributable to President Trump’s leadership. However, a genuine and enduring peace, characterized by disarmament and the implementation of reeducation, remains elusive.

Late on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, Israeli security forces operated throughout the night to destroy several communities across Judea and Samaria at different locations.

The affected communities were near Metzad in eastern Gush Etzion. In the “Kol Mevaser” hill in the Binyamin region residents complained of a forceful evacuation, claiming they were given only one minute to prepare before their homes were destroyed. Despite their requests, they were not allowed to remove valuable personal belongings, some of which were buried under the rubble.

At the same time, calls for riots were circulated on social media in nearby Arab villages. Around 1:00 a.m., forces arrived at the “Beit Anot” hill, a strategic point located between Gush Etzion and Mount Hebron. Structures used as a residence for a family with three children and a group of young people engaged in shepherding were demolished.

AFSI’s take:
The significance of the hilltop communities and farms must not be diminished as they are creating numerous new points and communities that contribute to the development of the Land of Israel. It is disheartening to see once again that while Israel is engaged in war with Iran, Lebanon, and others who aim for its downfall, it is simultaneously undermining its own foundations. This situation is perplexing, and as we’ve previously stated, it compromises sovereignty in this area.

A social media post by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz opposing what he called the “de facto annexation” of Judea and Samaria sparked a fierce confrontation on Monday evening with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

An outraged Smotrich responded, “On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the German Chancellor should bow his head and apologize a thousand times on behalf of Germany,” Smotrich wrote. “He should not dare lecture us on how to deal with the Nazis of our generation – who murdered, raped, slaughtered, and burned women, the elderly, and children in the most horrific massacre committed against the Jewish people since the terrible Holocaust.”

Smotrich then addressed the Jewish people’s right to their land and delivered a firm message to the Chancellor: “Mr. Chancellor, the days when Germans dictated to Jews where they are allowed to live and where they are not – are over and will never return. You will not force us back into ghettos – certainly not in our own land.”

AFSI’s take:
The timing of Merz’s post seems intentionally selected as it occurred on the eve of Yom HaShoah — Holocaust Remembrance Day. What a lack of sensitivity and respect. The Land of Israel is not owned by Germany, and Israel is the only entity authorized to determine its own legal and sovereign future. Although Israel prefers no support for the delusional two-state solution, it does not remain anxiously awaiting a shift in perspective from those on the opposing side.

Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that 21 hours of peace talks in Pakistan between the United States and Iran ended without an agreement to stop the war.

“They have chosen not to accept our terms,” Vance told reporters in Islamabad, but stressed that there is still a chance for a deal. “We leave here with a very simple proposal: a method of understanding that is our final and best offer,” he said. “We’ll see if Iran accept it.”

“The bad news is we have not reached an agreement,” Vance said. “And I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America.”

Iran quickly blamed the White House for the failure of the talks. The Tasnim and Fars news agencies, which are linked to the Revolutionary Guards, said the main disagreements were over the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s “nuclear rights.”

Will the talks with Iran be renewed? Possibly. By early Sunday, three main sticking points remained, according to the NY Times, citing two Iranian officials familiar with the talks: the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the fate of nearly 900 pounds of highly enriched uranium, and Iran’s demand that about $27 billion in frozen funds held abroad be released.

AFSI’s take:
Given a negotiation partner such as the Islamic Regime in Iran, we did not anticipate that an agreement would be achieved. They are unlikely to relinquish their enriched uranium, and their aspirations regarding nuclear capabilities continue to be significant. Hardliners continue to hold power, even though there is no definitive indication of who is at the helm of the regime. Without a complete change in the regime, it is uncertain how much longer further negotiations can persist. The subsequent action is yet to be determined.

Sources in Israel’s security and law enforcement agencies are warning that the Shin Bet’s Jewish division is facing a serious crisis. That’s the division responsible for fighting “Jewish terrorism,” or, as the State Dept. calls it, even under Marco Rubio and Donald Trump, “settler violence.” According to Haaretz criminal correspondent Josh Breiner, the situation has become worse since David Zini was appointed as head of the Shin Bet.

Sources cited by Josh Breiner say that David Zini places secondary importance on violence by “settlers” and right-wing activists in Judea and Samaria. According to these sources, he does not define attacks on PA Arabs in Judea and Samaria as “Jewish terrorism.” Instead, they say Zini tends to describe such cases as “incidents of friction” between Jews and Arabs.

AFSI’s take:
The flawed mentality of the Shin Bet is finally undergoing transformation. Contrary to widespread belief, acts of violence by Jews in self-defense do not constitute Jewish terrorism. It is high time that the scales of justice in this area be recalibrated.

About two hours before the start of Shabbat last week, Border Police forces and Civil Administration inspectors carried out coordinated operations at several Israeli homesteads across the Samaria region, acting on orders from senior IDF commanders in Central Command and the Judea and Samaria Division.

During the activity, a residential structure near Nofei Nehemia was demolished, while at other locations authorities enforced closed military zone orders. Security forces, accompanied by engineering equipment, also demolished a sheepfold at one homestead. Residents claimed they were not given time to remove personal belongings, alleging that the home was destroyed with furniture, food, and Shabbat supplies still inside.

At the same time, the security forces enforced a closed military area order at a homestead near Shiloh, evicting residents from the area. At a homestead near Hebron, residents reported being prevented from reaching their homes during the operation.

AFSI’s take:
The ongoing campaign against pioneering residents in this area must stop. We encourage focus on the application of sovereignty throughout Judea and Samaria, and operations like this will cease. Without doing so, Israel’s sovereignty continues to remain under siege.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday, after having previously threatened to destroy Iran’s entire civilization. The agreement calls for Iran to allow safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The ceasefire is intended to facilitate peace talks between the two nations. The ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon.

Despite the declaration of a ceasefire, Israel’s Red Alert App continues to go off forcing Israelis to continue to seek shelter.

The IDF on Friday identified that the Hezbollah terrorist organization launched rockets from a school compound in the Tir Zibneh area in southern Lebanon.

In newly released IDF footage, the heat signature of the launcher is clearly visible as it is transferred in real time within the school grounds, constituting the use of civilian infrastructure for military purposes in violation of international law.

Following the identification, and in accordance with international law, the IDF struck the premises in order to remove the threat to the State of Israel.

The IDF says it “views with severity the Hezbollah terrorist organization’s cynical use of civilian infrastructure for military activity and will continue to operate against the organization’s military infrastructure in accordance with international law to defend the State of Israel.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that he had ordered his government to start direct talks with Lebanon focused on disarming Hezbollah, signaling openness to diplomacy a day after the Israeli military escalated its offensive in the country.

AFSI’s take:
Ceasefires have been used repeatedly in previous situations. Many believe that the ceasefire proposed by Trump will be tenuous and there are many moving parts. In Israel, terrorist attacks continue unabated, and the attackers fail to recognize that Israel will not be obliterated, destroyed, or diminished. It is time to move past this and begin living as civilized individuals. The era of barbarism has ended. It is time for these terrorist groups to adapt accordingly. In other words, get over it – Israel is here to stay!!

Although not officially announced, the Israeli cabinet’s decision to establish or formalize 34 new Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria drew reactions inside Israel and abroad. Supporters in the broader camp backing Jewish communities in the area presented it as a major step to strengthen Israel’s presence there.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich framed the policy as a way to block the creation of a Palestinian “terror state,” while Energy Minister Eli Cohen called related infrastructure expansion for the newly approved communities “historic,” saying Israel was applying “sovereignty in law and in practice.”

The plan calls for nearly every major community bloc to receive at least one additional locality, including near the Green Line, to strengthen continuity, strategic corridors, transport routes and long-term residential growth; some would be newly built, others would legalize existing outposts, mostly in Area C, the part of Judea and Samaria under full Israeli control.

MK Smotrich has been tireless in his work to block the creation of a Palestinian state and we applaud him. The declaration and application of sovereignty across Judea and Samaria MUST be the next step. What is Israel waiting for?
